When running became popular, many people developed injuries. Lacking proper training information, enthusiasts tended to run longer, harder, and more often than their bodies could tolerate.

Traumatised by repeated stress, shock and vibration, connective tissues may become inflamed and muscles remain in semi-contracted state even after training is completed. The top of the shin is often tender in runners (shinsplints) Loosening this spot alleviates much of the tension and prevents pain in this area.

Massage encourages the muscles to relax, thereby helping the athletes recover from the last training session and prepare for the next one.

Cycling

Cycling

Because cyclists are in a bent-over position, the neck is in a constant state of tension to hold the head up.  Additionally aches and pains associated with biking are; stiff back, numbness in the hands, legs and feet tension.

We will concentrate on your; neck, shoulders, lower back, hands, quadriceps, iliotibial band, hamstrings, buttocks, feet.


Mountain Biking

Mountain bikers experience many of the same lower body strains as road cyclists do. They are just moving slower and using their bodies to push and pull the bike more. The most common complaints among mountain bikers are soreness in hands, wrists and forearms, plus some shoulder stiffness. Also the Iliotibial band gets very irritated or inflamed because, like skaters, mountain bikers make heavy use of the hip adductor to pull the legs in.

We will concentrate on your; hands, forearms, quadriceps, iliotibial band, hamstrings, lower back, buttocks, neck and shoulders.

Windsurfing

As with cyclists, windsurfers stabilize themselves with their legs. They also use their feet to workout, so massage of the entire lower body is very useful.

To keep the board upright windsurfers make extra use of their forearms, like rock climbers, and both the biceps and triceps are engaged, along with deltoids, while the neck and lower back are hyperextend.

In swimming the athletes weight is supported by water’s natural buoyancy, so there is no pounding to contend with. There is, however, the accumulated strain of tremendous repetition. Most of the strain experienced by a swimmer is in the upper body.

Consistent massage of the shoulders, back and arm muscles, help prevent injuries of the shoulder and upper arm girdle.

Hands and feet may be prone to cramping from the effects of pushing against the water, stiffness in the buttock and lower back. Massage encourages recovery of these muscle systems.
